After a long artistic career full of achievements, British actor Bernard Hill, who was famous for his role as Captain Edward Smith in “Titanic,” the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and “The Return of the King,” died at the age of 79 years.

British newspapers published news of Hill's death early on Sunday morning, according to what his agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed to the BBC.


In "Titanic," Hale played Captain Edward Smith, one of the only characters based on a real person in the 1997 tragic romance starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The film also won 11 Oscars.


In 2002, he joined the "Lord of the Rings" film series directed by Peter Jackson, where he played the role of King Theoden, and appeared in the films "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and "The Lord of the Rings". "The Return of the King" in 2003, which also won 11 Oscars.



Before becoming a well-known figure in Hollywood, Hill made a name for himself in the 1982 British television series Boys From the Black Stuff, about five unemployed men, for which he was nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award in 1983 for this role, while the series wonBAFTA Award for Best Drama Series.In the same year, he played the role of Sergeant Putnam in the film "Gandhi".


His death on Sunday coincided with the broadcast premiere of the second season of the BBC series “The Responder,” in which he played the father of the show’s star, Martin Freeman.
